William A. Harphant Of
Clifton Dies Thursday

William Alfred Harphant, 86, of Clifton, died last night at 8:05 in Springfield City Hospital, where he had been a patient for a week.

The son of Thomas and Margaret Hayslett Harphant, he was born in Clifton Dec. 24, 1877. He was a lifetime resident of Clifton community. He was a cream and poultry buyer and in 1953 he retired from the Sherman and White Co. where he was employed for 25 years. Harphant was a member of the Cliffside Presbyterian Church and a veteran of the Spanish-American War.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola; one daughter, Mrs. Fannie Breakall; and one son, Kenneth.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Mae Cooper and Mrs. Dorothy Caudill, both of Clifton, and Mrs. Ruby Whipp of Springfield; five sons, Charles, Robert and Albert of Clifton, Harry of Springfield, and Harold of San Manuel, Ariz.; 29 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

The body was taken to the Jackson, Lytle and Coffman Funeral Home in Yellow Springs. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 7-8 p.m. Burial will be in Clifton Cemetery Monday at 2 p.m.

He was born in Clifton Dec. 24, 1877, the son of Thomas and Margaret Hayslett Harphant. He spent his entire life in the Clifton community. He had been a cream and poultryman and retired from the Sherman and White Co. in 1953 after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Cliffside Presbyterian Church and a veteran of the Spanish-American War.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Mae Cooper and Mrs. Dorothy Caudill, both of Clifton, and Mrs. Ruby Whipp of Springfield; five sons, Charles, Robert and Albert of Clifton, Harry of Springfield, and Harold of San Manuel, Ariz.; 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Viola Harphant died June 6, 1952, in the Fairborn Nursing Home, Fairborn (Greene County) Ohio, of chronic myocarditis (auricular fibrillation) and generalized arteriosclerosis at age 69. She was born April 21, 1883 in Greene County Ohio; father Jacob Huffman, mother Ameda Cline. Her usual address is given as Jackson St., Clifton (Greene County) Ohio; she had been in the nursing home about 3 months. Her occupation was listed as housewife. Information was provided by William Harphant. Burial was in the Clifton Cemetery, Clifton, Ohio.

Funderburg

Edward Prugh Funderburg b Feb 12, 1877 d Nov 4, 1950 m May 2, 1899 Laura Lucy Harpen b Sept 5, 1877 d Apr 25, 1955, d/o Thomas and Rebecca Hughes Harpen. For 12 years Ed was a rural mail carrier out of New Carlisle, Ohio. Laura listed her occupation at time of marriage as an "artist." When Laura was three years old her mother married Isaac Funderburgh of Miami County. At that time Laura was living in a children's home, however, she was raised by Isaac and her mother. Laura is remembered as a very unselfish person, always anxious to help those in need. Edward and Laura named their second child - Ivan Harphant Funderburg.
