Jens and Sine NELSEN were both born in Denmark in the early 1870's. They worked in Kankakee, Illinois and were married there in 1879. They moved to Iowa in 1882 and lived there until 1899, when they bought land in Des Moines River Township, in Murray County. They were the parents of 10 children. Two died in infancy. The others were Elsie, Mrs. Fred PETERSEN, Ned, John, Marie, Mrs. John JAEGER, Anna, Mrs. Alfred BOLTZ, Hans, who died at age 19, Victor and Albert.
Victor is the only one still living, now residing in Westbrook. All the sons lived mostly in Murray County. Albert had a farm west of Slayton and died there in 1975.
Jens NELSEN died in 1904 at the age of 50. Sine lived in Westbrook for a time, then with a daughter in North Dakota, and here with her sons. She lived to the age of 77, dying in 1931. She was a practicing midwife to many neighbors and her family.
